Let's face it, I'm not exactly a blogging superstar. In fact, the last time I graced this digital space with my (hopefully) insightful words was back in June 2023. Why the radio silence? Well, to be perfectly honest, I often struggle to believe anyone would be remotely interested in the mundane details of my life and thoughts.
But that doesn't mean I haven't been busy! Since my last post, I've embarked on a whirlwind of creative endeavors. I've written and published a historical fiction trilogy – "Harvest of Hunger," "Fortune's Retrieval," and "Pursuing Shadows" – drawing inspiration from my family's rich tapestry of experiences intertwined with China's history. Spanning roughly the 20th century and culminating in my own time spent there in the 1980s, these novels haven't exactly set the literary world on fire, but hey, a writer can always dream, right?
And the creative train hasn't stopped there. I've also delved into the fascinating world of a notorious Chinese bandit at the turn of the century – the White Wolf. This latest manuscript, aptly titled "Fangs of Frustration," is nearing completion, and I can't wait to share it with the world.
In the meantime, I've been nurturing a newfound passion for gardening. My backyard has become a battleground (of sorts) as I attempt to cultivate the "supposedly" easy-to-grow holy trinity of vegetables: tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and peppers. So far, I've only managed to send one lonely bell pepper plant to the great compost heap, but the jury's still out on the others.
Life, as always, throws its curveballs. The challenges, disappointments, and frustrations of being a self-published author with limited promotional resources are ever-present, all while I strive to be the best husband and father I can be. It's a constant work in progress, wouldn't you agree?
So, there you have it. A glimpse into the not-so-glamorous, yet undeniably fulfilling, life of a (not-so-great) blogger, aspiring novelist, and amateur gardener.
Stay tuned for more (hopefully) regular updates!
